Early in the morning of January 13, 1948, YB-49A, #2 lifted off into the air for the first time. The awesome Flying Wing was on its way to Edwards Air Force Base to enter the test program.
The painting commemorates the first flight YB-49A #2 serial #42-102368 flown under the skilled hands of Max Stanley who, along with the artist Hal McCormick, has hand signed each of this limited edition print.
A real feather in our cap was to have Northrop test pilot Max Stanley sign this edition. Not only did he fly all models of the Flying Wing, he also laid to rest the controversy over instability, there was none.
We all miss Max since his passing, such a low keyed unassuming person, who would always go out of his way to stop and say hello when we were set up at the air shows. Thanks Max!
